Job Title: Safety and Security Manager

Reports To : Director of Safety and Security

Supervisory Responsibility: Full time and Part time Safety and Security Supervisors

Base Pay Rate: $45,000-$50,000

FLSA Status : Exempt (Full time, Regular)

Work Schedule: Variable including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays

Description: The Safety and Security Manager’s job is to ensure the security and safety of employees, patrons, artwork, and the overall building in the Museum. This position will oversee the day-to-day safety and security operations. This position will manage the safety and security team which includes full-time and part-time Safety and Security Supervisors. They will assist in training programs, scheduling, implementing emergency procedures and security protocols, review incident reports, analyze daily logs, property surveillance, and assisting the Director of Safety and Security with the overall functionality of the Safety and Security Team. They will work with other departments in the Museum, such as Visitor Experience, Special Events, Curatorial, Facilities, and more. This position will be constantly working with the Director of Safety and Security to improve protocols and procedures to ensure that CMA is functioning with the highest level of safety and security daily.

Position Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills and works well with others. This position requires a great deal of communication within the Safety and Security Department, but also with other departments in the Museum
  • Multitasking: Managing multiple points of the museum, radio/phone communication, managing computerized access control systems, CCTV surveillance, and more
  • Must have a flexible work schedule; this includes weekends and night shifts. This position typically involves 1st and 2nd shift, but we require availability for 3rd shift too. This involves after hours availability and on call availability as well
  • Is a leader; able to make decisions and uphold procedures; able to identify problems and find solutions; has confidence to enforce safety and security protocols. Good at managing a team
  • Experience using Microsoft Teams and Excel, camera monitoring and surveillance, using alarm based and badge systems (AMAG)
  • Is comfortable managing the safety and security team and making certain everyone in the Museum is following correct safety and security protocols. Having the confidence to enforce protocols as well
  • Is willing to learn, willing to adapt, willing to change. Updating/improving policies and procedures

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Safety and Security Team
  • Make sure other departments are following safety and security protocols; working with other departments to ensure procedures and protocols are being followed correctly
  • Help manage the AMAG system which involves alarms, readers, and badges
  • Communicating over the phone and radio to answer any safety and security questions effectively and efficiently
  • Maintain knowledge of department and other department structure and staff
  • Maintain safety and security documents, assist with making sure these documents are up to date, assist with training for new hires
  • Assist Director of Safety and Security through the hiring process
  • Stay informed about events, exhibitions, tours, meetings, facilities issues, education programs, and all other aspects of the Museum
  • Be the first point of contact for Safety and Security at times, be professional, and be able to solve situations that follow safety and security guidelines and protocols
  • Work with other departments in CMA to help increase their knowledge of safety and security to help understand why these protocols are in place and why we use them
  • Full understand property surveillance of the Museum
  • Oversee Daily logs, incident reports, attendance tracker
  • Communicate with downtown security (SIDS)
  • Check equipment to ensure no updates or orders are needed: AED, first aid inventory, fire extinguishers, camera, monitors, badges, etc
  • Assist with training new hires and current staff

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years of Managerial experience required. Minimum two (2) years of security experience required. Experience working with multiple departments in a job setting is required
  • Proven ability to ensure safety and security protocols are being met over managing multiple employees and other departments
  • Excellent interpersonal, conversational, and verbal skills. Must be fluent in conversational English. Must have strong leadership ability
  • Willingness to and capacity to learn/acquire new skills and knowledge, intellectually curious.
  • Highly responsible, reliable, confident, proactive, detail oriented
  • Ability to use a computer daily for Outlook, Microsoft Teams and Excel, and our Amag system.
  • First AID, CPR, AED Certification Required
  • De-escalation, active shooter, fire drill, and other emergency protocol training is preferred
  • Must have a quick response when it comes to camera surveillance, being able to follow an incident or person from camera to camera is vital. While also communicating with the safety and security team during this process
  • Experience with Training exercises and scheduling is required

Uniform Requirements : This position does require maintaining a dress-code and clean, professional personal appearance. Most days will require a business casual dress code, however there will be days when a more formal look will be required.

Physical Demands : The Safety and Security Manager must be able to sit, stand, walk, and be attentive and engaged for extended periods of time while monitoring multiple computer systems and museum spaces. Must be able to spend much of the workday sitting or walking. Must be able to use a full range of body movement to assist staff and visitors to ensure safety. Must be able to walk on flat or incline surfaces (up and down) and go up and down stairs, especially in emergency situations. May occasionally have to climb or balance. Must be able to see, smell, hear, talk, read, and comprehend. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to understand, follow, and deliver verbal and written instructions. Understanding emergency protocols and being able to explain them to the rest of the Safety and Security Team and/or other departments in the Museum. Work Environment : Expect a cooperative and team-focused environment, working directly with safety and security staff, other departmental staff, and visitors of all ages and backgrounds. CMA galleries experience a full range of activity from quiet and slow paced to loud and crowded. A variety of Special Events occur on a weekly basis. Ensuring all safety and security protocols is essential to the staff, patrons, artwork, and building. All work is focused on providing a safe and secure work environment and building, while also promoting CMA mission and values.
