Core Position Responsibilities: Partners with teachers and families to plan day to day routines and programs for children with specific needs as well as others in the community. Guides individual and small groups in open-ended and structured playful learning experiences. Supports children with communicating their needs, asking for help, repairing relationships with there’s been rupture. Supports children with social engagement and problem solving strategies. Prepares materials and environment for learning experiences. As applicable, performs tasks assigned by occupational & physical therapists, speech language pathologists, & other providers in the delivery of related services. Prepares for meal times, participates in meal times by modeling social interactions. Ensures the safety of children Collects data through observation and assessments to track growth. Establishes a strong home-school relationship with families, provide support and offer resources as they navigate early intervention Participate in supervising students during recess and other non-class times and Assist in planning and supervising walking and local field trips. Provides physical assistance to children which may include toileting, changing, feeding, lifting. Supports a variety of children activities including playground, gym and cafeteria. Supports de-escalation and problem solving strategies, re-direction, and modifies behavioral strategies with children consistent with goals. Support with modification, development and/or preparation of learning strategies, materials & activities to accommodate different learning styles, ability levels, and other learning needs of children. Support the implementation & modification of behavioral strategies with children that are consistent with classroom & building behavioral goals. Required Qualifications: Two (2) years, relevant college experience in early education and/or human development Minimum one year of experience working in a school or nonprofit with children ages 3 - 5. At least one or two years relevant experience working with children from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds Moderate to high degree of physical stamina with the possibility of lifting up to 50 pounds in the physical assistance of students with special needs. Frequent standing, walking, sitting and bending. Exposure to noise and activity in a school setting. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Knowledge & Skills: Experience working with diverse populations, specifically communities of color. Demonstrated skill working with children experiencing disabilities and/or with specific needs. Must be enrolled in the Oregon Central Background Registry prior to beginning employment and enrollment must be maintained throughout employment. Ability to follow directions, follow through on classroom plans, and maintain effective working relationships with children, families, and colleagues. Flexibility and patience while working alongside children with a range of skills and abilities. Ability to plan and implement learning experiences Ability to maintain a high degree of ethical behavior and confidentiality about students and staff. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to manage conflict through equitable decision-making and effective problem solving. Openness to learning and practicing a new approach to teaching and learning. Commitment to culturally-relevant practices.
