Position: Equity Research Analyst
Firm Description: DF Dent and Company Inc. is an independent investment manager located in Baltimore, MD with approximately $10 billion in total firm assets. The firm is a bottom-up, long-term investor, and manages concentrated, low-turnover portfolios. This overarching investment philosophy is applicable across the firm’s entire product lineup: All Cap Growth, Midcap Growth, & Small Cap Growth. All products are team managed.
DF Dent is looking to add a member to its equity research team. Considering that we have enjoyed success in hiring both seasoned (10-15 years of experience with some as a PM) and younger (3-5 years of experience) investment professionals, we are open-minded about a candidate’s industry experience. The key is that the candidate is highly capable and fits in well with our client-first culture. Due to our firm’s size, a strong cultural fit is critical when bringing on new team members.
The position offered will depend on the background and experience level of the successful candidate.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will work with the firm’s Portfolio Managers and Analysts to assist with rigorous company-specific, fundamental analysis to find high-quality businesses with sustainable competitive advantages. The individual will become familiar with DF Dent’s investment philosophy and assist with all parts of the investment process.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Performing primary research including company visits, attending industry conferences, interviewing competitors and customers, and meeting with company management teams.
· Performing fundamental investment analysis including building complex financial models, analyzing company financial statements and filings, and performing valuation analysis.
· Ultimately helping to identify, evaluate, and recommend great companies and stocks to invest in for our clients.
· Listening to periodic update calls by the firm’s portfolio companies and producing summaries for the team.
· Monitoring company-specific news flow and highlighting to the PMs those items that are most relevant to the firm’s investment holdings.
Essential Skills Required:
· Advanced financial modeling and Excel skills with a thorough understanding of financial analysis and the investment process.
· Strong organizational and communication skills.
· A heightened ability to work efficiently, always with integrity and humility.
· Effective teamwork skills and ability to work both collaboratively and independently, showing initiative.
· Minimum education of a bachelor’s degree.
The ideal candidate would:
· Hold the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
· Have prior experience in equity research.
· Be hungry and motivated to do a great job and succeed.
· Have a passion for investing and an understanding of the stock market.
