Job Summary

The Assistant Dean of the School of Business is a key leadership position responsible for providing support and assistance to the Dean in the overall administration and management of the Anheuser-Busch School of Business at Harris-Stowe State University. The Assistant Dean plays a crucial role in advancing the academic, strategic, and operational objectives of the School, fostering a culture of excellence, and ensuring the success of students, faculty, and staff.

Essential Functions

Academic Leadership:

  • Collaborate with the Dean to develop and implement the School’s strategic vision and goals in alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan.
  • Assist in the development and assessment of academic programs, ensuring their alignment with industry trends and accreditation standards.
  • Support the recruitment, professional development, and evaluation of faculty members.
  • Oversee curriculum development and revisions, ensuring academic excellence.

Student Engagement:

  • Promote student success, including academic advising, career counseling, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Participate in student recruitment and admissions activities.
  • Address student concerns and provide leadership in maintaining a positive learning environment.

Administrative Oversight:

  • Assist in budget planning and financial management for the school
  • Provide guidance on administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with University policies and accreditation standards.

Community and Industry Engagement:

  • Foster relationships with local and global business communities to enhance partnerships, internships, and job placement opportunities for students.
  • Represent the School at various conferences, events, and industry meetings.
  • Collaborate with alumni to strengthen alumni engagement and support.

Research and Scholarship:

  • Encourage and support faculty research, publications, and grant applications.
  • Promote a culture of research and scholarly activities within the School.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the School’s faculty, staff, and student body.
  • Lead initiatives to create an inclusive and supportive academic environment.

Accreditation and Assessment:

  • Ensure that the School maintains accreditation and compliance with accrediting bodies.
  • Oversee assessment and continuous improvement processes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Assist the Dean with special projects and initiatives.
  • Serve on University committees and task forces.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • A Ph.D. or terminal degree in a relevant field.
  • Significant academic leadership experience, preferably in higher education administration.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and procedures.
  • An understanding of business education and industry trends.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Budget management and financial acumen.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to the University's mission and values.
