Job Description

Greenwich Country Day School is an independent, co-educational day school with a current enrollment of over 1400 students in grades N-12, and a faculty and staff of over 350. The original Old Church Road campus is home to grades N-8. The High School, established in 2019, is located less than two miles away on Stanwich Road. Greenwich Country Day School seeks an Upper School Math Department Chair to start in August 2026, to teach within and lead a Math program that ranges from Geometry through Advanced Multivariable Calculus .

Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordination of a diverse and accomplished math department faculty, advancing a future-focused vision for math education.
  • Effectively organize and track 9-12 program-specific skill goals and content mapping; Coordinate systems, initiatives, and Honors/Advanced Studies process within program; Collaborate closely with Pre- through Middle School program leadership to lead N-12 skill and pedagogical alignment.
  • Serve on highly collaborative Upper School Academic Leadership Team, guiding the primary academic initiatives for the division. 
  • Effectively implement guidance and initiatives from Upper School Leadership Team;  Promote community and belonging among students and faculty.
  • Serve as a consistent and reliable liaison with students and families re: program, placement, and inquiries; Support recruitment, admissions, placement, and family events; Work with Upper School Student Support Team to coordinate intervention plans and track student progress.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of the Upper School re: mentorship, professional evaluation, and coaching of team members and program.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a related field 
  • Experience as a programmatic leader in the field of mathematics 
  • A minimum of 6 years of successful classroom teaching experience with students in this age group, and/or demonstrated professional competency
  • Experience with applied learning and/or research opportunities within the field of mathematics
  • Demonstrated experience creating effective home/school partnerships around placement in core/honors/advanced classes 
  • A passion for learning and the ability to motivate and inspire students
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive school community
  • Willingness to take on multiple roles within the school
  • Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of young adults - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as an academic advisor
  • Experience advising independent and original student research
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing collaborative relationships with external partners/organizations in the design and implementation of learning experiences
