As L.A.'s premier performing arts destination, The Music Center convenes artists, communities, and ideas with the goal of deepening the cultural lives of every resident in Los Angeles County. The $80 million non-profit performing arts organization has three divisions: TMC Arts, TMC Ops, and TMC Business Services. TMC Arts, The Music Center’s programming engine, provides year-round programming inside The Music Center’s four theatres, which include Walt Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ahmanson Theatre and Mark Taper Forum; on Jerry Moss Plaza; outside at Gloria Molina Grand Park, a 12-acre adjacent green space; and in schools and neighborhoods all over Los Angeles County. TMC Arts presents world-class dance with Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, free and low-cost public concerts and events, as well as K–12 arts learning programs, workshops, performances, interactive experiences, and special events. TMC Ops manages the theatres, Jerry Moss Plaza and Gloria Molina Grand Park, which comprise $3 billion in county assets, on behalf of the County of Los Angeles. TMC Business Services includes Advancement, Human Resources, Finance, Tech Services, and Marketing and Communications. The Music Center is also home to four renowned resident companies—Center Theatre Group, Los Angeles Master Chorale, LA Opera, and LA Phil.

Position Overview
The Outreach Presenter plays a key role in inspiring and informing Southern California high school students, educators, and arts organizations about The Music Center’s Spotlight program—a free, nationally acclaimed performing arts competition that awards over $100,000 in scholarships annually. Outreach Presenters serve as the program’s ambassadors, delivering engaging presentations that explain the application process, highlight program benefits, and encourage students of all skill levels to apply. This position will report to the Outreach Advisor and Senior Director for Spotlight

Now in its 38th year, Spotlight is more than a competition—it is a transformative artistic development opportunity. Students gain access to professional feedback, performance opportunities, and mastery classes taught by renowned artists and arts administrators. In a supportive and inclusive environment, participants develop not only their artistry but also essential life skills such as self-esteem, preparation, and perseverance. Spotlight reflects The Music Center’s commitment to ensuring that all students have access to high-quality arts learning experiences, both in school and in the community.

Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

  • Serve as a representative of The Music Center’s Spotlight program at high schools, arts schools, community organizations, and virtual events
  • Deliver dynamic and engaging presentations (10–45 minutes) tailored to each audience, including students, teachers, and school administrators
  • Clearly explain the Spotlight program, including the application process, program benefits, categories, and key deadlines
  • Respond to student questions and offer support and guidance on how to apply
  • Distribute promotional materials (both digital and/or print) to encourage student participation
  • Coordinate presentation scheduling with The Music Center’s Outreach Advisor and school or organization contacts
  • Prepare for each presentation by staying up to date on program details and customizing content based on the specific audience
  • Reliable transportation is required

Work Schedule & Commitment

  • Timeline: August through October
  • Training: One brief training session (in-person or via Zoom) with the Outreach Advisor at the start of the season
  • Presentation Schedule: Based on confirmed school/organization bookings; may include multiple presentations in a single day
  • Format: Presentations may be conducted in-person or via Zoom, depending on the host's preference

Basic qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in the performing arts, nonprofit, or entertainment industry
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed, for school and arts organizations' schedules
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet software
  • Reliable transportation is required
