The Molecular Biologist is responsible for performing and analyzing Molecular assays to support IHMA’s contract research projects. These responsibilities include writing protocols, procuring necessary supplies and equipment, conducting testing, training other employees as needed, recording and summarizing results, and routinely updating management on project status.

Starting Pay Range: $23 - $26 per hour

Specific Duties:

• Perform accurate and precise testing according to established procedures in Molecular Microbiology.
• Interpret data resulting from Molecular assays and determine validity of test results.
• Maintain accurate computerized records of valid test results according to established procedures.
• Perform necessary quality control procedures, properly evaluate control data, and implement and document corrective action as needed.
• Record all needed information and write up study results as required by contracts with clients.
• Contribute to scientific reports (abstracts, posters) when needed.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot all instrumentation and equipment used in performance of job duties.
• Organize work according to laboratory priorities and complete assigned responsibilities with little supervision.
• Support the Molecular Microbiology Laboratoryand IHMA Laboratories as a whole.
• Observe all safety measures; keep work area clean and safe.
• Communicate with supervisor and/or co-workers in a timely manner when any problems arise.
• Train other employees as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Background Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biological sciences with 2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience.
• Experience in Molecular Biology or similar life science in a clinical microbiology or research laboratory.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with other Microsoft products.
• Familiarity with higher throughput equipment (e.g. multichannel pipettors) is preferred.
• Familiarity with short-read whole-genome sequencing is preferred
