Job Description

Performs various front desk and clerical duties in a medical office, including such functions as complete demographic and insurance registration, charge entry, scheduling patients, verifying insurance information, and other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
• Two to three years of medical office experience
• General understanding and application of basic accounting principles
• PC proficiency
• Strong customer service skills
• Accurate data entry skills
• Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and pre-authorization
• Knowledge of GE, EPIC, or similar computerized billing systems
• Medical terminology preferred

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Demonstrates knowledge of FPI and its practices, including payer contracts, policies, and best practices.
2. Manages provider schedules and schedules appointments accurately and effectively, including communicating patient responsibilities such as obtaining referrals, bringing co-pays, and presenting identification and insurance cards at check-in.
3. Understands and applies FPI policy for cash collection and patient encounters, including collecting co-payments and outstanding balances, and posting accurately in GE Front Desk Credit Card Module.
4. Has a working knowledge of the revenue cycle related to patient encounters and verifying patient demographic and insurance information for payment processing.
5. Maintains Registration Certification, entering accurate information into the GE Practice Management System and understanding payer categories and Registration FSCs.
6. Schedules patients for evaluations, re-evaluations, and treatments, accepting referrals from social workers, discharge planners, physicians, and their offices.
