Home Loan Specialist, Moorpark, CA

Position Overview:
The Home Loan Specialist is an entry-level role that supports multiple channels within the organization. In this position, you'll help ensure smooth and accurate loan processing by reviewing files, verifying details, and collaborating with internal teams to meet business and customer service goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review incoming loan files for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with company policies, investor guidelines, and regulations.
• Confirm loan structure details, including program eligibility, product selection, occupancy, property type, and transaction purpose.
• Analyze borrower documents (income, assets, credit reports, liabilities) for accuracy and consistency.
• Identify missing or incorrect information and request necessary updates or documentation.
• Set up loan files in the loan origination system (LOS) before underwriting.
• Ensure disclosures, fees, and credits match the loan structure and compliance standards.
• Review appraisals, AVMs, and property documents for accuracy and guideline compliance.
• Work closely with Loan Officers, Brokers, Account Executives, and internal teams to resolve issues and avoid delays.
• Document clear, concise notes in the loan file to support underwriting.
• Meet service-level agreements (SLAs), productivity goals, and quality standards.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of mortgage loan products (Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, Non-QM).
• Familiarity with underwriting guidelines and pre-underwriting review standards.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Ability to spot risks, discrepancies, and guideline conflicts early.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong time management skills; able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with loan origination systems (e.g., Encompass) and mortgage documentation.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in finance, business, or related field preferred.
• 1-3 years of experience in mortgage processing, underwriting support, loan setup, or similar roles.
• Prior experience reviewing income, assets, and credit documentation preferred.
