FocusKPI is looking for a  Frontend AI Engineer (web) with research experience  to join one of our clients, a high-tech SaaS company.

The client is seeking a Frontend AI Engineer (web) with research experience to join their Web Platform team and help them define and develop Web AI Agents that can perform complex, multi-step autonomous tasks.

The Web Platform Team is a group of Software Engineers researching and evolving the Web Platform, Web Standards, and novel ways to use web content. 

Work Location: Mountain View, CA or Boston, MA (on-site 4 days a week)
Duration: 12-month contract with potential to extend or convert depending on the candidate's performance; hybrid role
Pay Range:  $85/hr to $100/hr

Responsibilities:  

• Create quick prototypes and proof-of-concepts
• Contribute to the research activities of their team
• Generate creative solutions (patents) and design, develop, and evaluate AI/ML-based solutions for the client's services

Qualifications:

• Master's/PhD degree in Computer Science or a relevant field
• Preferred 2-5 years of industry experience
• Front-end Web (JavaScript) is mandatory to have
• Experience with AI is also one of the other criteria for this role, and it is required to have
• Experience with LLM (Large Language Model) is a must to have; Experience with integrating large language models (LLM), finetuning on LLM/VLLM, self-hosting LLMs, and on-device (edge) LLM
• Some product experience and research experience are also required to have
• Practical experience with web scraping and AI-Agent projects , preferably with a focus on natural language processing, accessibility, and interaction on the web. 
• Understanding of HTML, CSS, and DOM is necessary for navigating and extracting data from web pages.
• Familiarity with web scraping frameworks like Puppeteer or a similar framework
• On-device AI model optimization and quantization
• Research experience from school is also considered, along with other required skill sets, with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience

Desired qualifications:

• Experience in Reinforcement Learning is a plus
• ML model deployment and inference in the Android OS
• Demonstrated market understanding of Web AI agents with Gemini 2.0, Anthropic Computer Use, or OpenAI Operator
• First- or co-authored publications on AI-Agent at leading workshops or conferences
