Job Description and Duties

The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) is currently recruiting for a Special Investigator in the Enforcement Division’s Statewide Investigative Fraud Team unit in Sacramento. CSLB is near Highway 50 & Bradshaw Road and has free parking!

Under the general direction of the Supervising Special Investigator I (Non-Peace Officer) [SSI I], the Special Investigator (SI) is assigned to the Joint Enforcement Strike Force (JESF) and may be assigned to the Labor Enforcement Task Force (LETF) and functions independently to perform a wide variety of tasks focusing on proactive enforcement of laws relating to unlicensed activity and fraudulent activity by licensed contractors.

Working Conditions

Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview. However, they must reside in the State of California once they are hired and start working.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
  • The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.

  • Pursuant to California Business and Professions Code 154.3, incumbent in this position will be required to submit fingerprints to the Department of Justice for criminal history background clearance and be cleared before hiring.
  • This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs’ Conflict of Interest Regulations.
  • The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1st, and within 30 days of leaving office. The incumbent shall participate in the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Employer Pull Notice Program (EPN), which is a process for providing the Department with a report showing the driver’s current public record as recorded by the DMV, and any subsequent convictions, failures to appear, accidents, driver’s license suspensions, driver’s license revocations, or any other actions taken against the driving privilege or license, added to the driver’s DMV record.

The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to act independently with flexibility and tact; willingness to work odd and irregular hours; good memory for names, faces, and incidents; willingness to travel. The incumbent is required to travel throughout an assigned geographical area, by various methods of transportation, and may travel outside of an assigned geographical area, involving trips of up to several hundred miles from the assigned office, and overnight stays, up to several days. The incumbent must also possess a valid driver license, a good driving record, and is expected to drive vehicles safely.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required, and applicants must include one. The SOQ is a narrative discussion prepared by the applicant describing how the applicant’s skills, knowledge, abilities, education, training, and experience qualify them for the position.
