Job Description: Chief Engineer – Luxury Private Island, Caribbean

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Engineer to lead the engineering and maintenance operations of a world-class luxury private island in the Caribbean . This role requires a proven professional with a strong background in luxury property management and previous experience working on private islands , ensuring seamless operations across all technical, mechanical, and infrastructure systems. The Chief Engineer will play a pivotal role in maintaining the island’s exclusivity, safety, sustainability, and luxury standards. Key Responsibilities

• Operations & Maintenance
  • Oversee all engineering functions including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, water treatment, desalination, waste management, and renewable energy systems.
  • Ensure continuous and reliable utilities for the island’s villas, staff housing, and guest facilities.
  • Lead preventative and corrective maintenance programs to ensure minimal downtime.
• Project Management
  • Supervise capital improvement projects, renovations, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Work closely with contractors, architects, and designers to maintain world-class standards.
  • Manage budgets, procurement, and timelines effectively.
• Team Leadership
  • Build, train, and manage a multi-disciplinary engineering and maintenance team.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and service excellence.
  • Coordinate with hospitality and operations teams to ensure seamless guest experiences.
• Health, Safety & Sustainability
  • Ensure compliance with international safety and environmental regulations.
  • Champion sustainability initiatives including renewable energy, eco-friendly waste solutions, and water conservation.
  • Develop and enforce emergency response procedures.

• Mandatory:
  • Proven experience as a Chief Engineer (or equivalent leadership role) in luxury resorts, private islands, or ultra-luxury properties .
  • Strong background in island-based engineering operations , including power generation, desalination, and off-grid systems.
  • Exceptional knowledge of preventive maintenance, mechanical/electrical systems, and construction management.
• Preferred:
  • Engineering degree (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil).
  • Experience with renewable energy systems and sustainable infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with tropical and marine environments.

• Strategic problem-solving with a hands-on approach.
• Strong leadership and cross-cultural team management skills.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and planning abilities.
• High attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining world-class luxury standards.
